Last Quarter Moon in Cancer 🌗♋️

Release the Reckless. Unlock the Wild.

Saturday morning marked the rise of the last quarter Moon in Cancer. It carried with it a cozy nature with a hint of hopeful melancholy. We can always count on the Moon to be at its most benevolent state in the sign of Cancer. It brings us back to the comfort of the tide, nurturing us with a quiet rhythm that feels like home.

Even within the support of this Cancer Moon, we can still feel undertones of pressure coming from the Sun’s energy in Libra, pushing us to create the harmony it’s showing us is available in every season and reminding us of what is still outstanding on our list of things to shift in life.

Sometimes the harder things we have to do in life get easier when we have the support of our tribe, or our family, or the people that make us feel like home. Libra season has helped us shift our boundaries to ensure we have the right support system around us because this last quarter Moon reminds us that we are simply preparing to enter a new chapter with a new fire to walk through. What we need to release may take the support of the people around us. Or, they may need to encourage us from the other side of the fire we are steadily preparing to walk through.

The last quarter Moon asks us to slow down exactly where we are, and to find the nectar in the presence of every moment. This is the calm before the courage—the moment we rest and replenish our energy and our vessel to prepare for the shifts that are inevitable in the coming season.

We don’t have to rush to the next phase and we don’t have to rush to release, because if you slow down, you will notice that it’s already happening. The tide of the Cancer Moon has gracefully and honorably begun pulling these pieces from their disintegrating state, drawing them from your consciousness with ease. All it’s asking of you is to recognize and honor them in their farewell.

Notice the habits, beliefs, doubts, coping mechanisms, ideas, and relationships that are naturally drifting away right now. If you trust them, let them. If you don't trust them, release them. This is a time to come to terms with what the tide is taking, and trust what it will bring.

You have felt the budding leaves of the ancestral wild growing within you. She needs more space, more water, more light. There are tangled weeds of recklessness trying to grow with her, but they don’t belong. This last quarter Moon reminds us to release all that is hindering the growth of anything rooted in that ancestral wisdom. Release the reckless and unlock your wild. Your wild woman is the only one who can guide you along the path ahead, machete in hand.

We might not be able to feel the difference between wild and reckless yet, but our highest self can. Honoring the wild, finding its purity, and expanding the space it has to grow evolves the Divine Feminine within us. Developing our inner senses to discern the point where wild meets reckless creates new boundaries within ourselves—boundaries that no longer let the weeds of impulsive reactions, overprotection, unaligned coping mechanisms, and scarcity infiltrate the roots of our wild being and intuitive knowledge.

Think about it as your “Great Send Off.” We are releasing the soldiers that once fought our battles for us, honoring them for what they protected us from while recognizing we no longer need them to fight in the same way. You now carry the strength, protection, and visceral instinct they once provided without needing their illusion of stability. As the Moon approaches its last degrees of illumination, we too have to take these last days before the New moon to let the tide take what’s no longer serving the highest version of ourselves. These last bits might be the hardest ones, rooted deeply in the layers we haven’t ventured to. If you open your heart up, the Cancer energy will lead you to your depths.

We no longer need the beliefs, habits, protection, and coping mechanisms we did in the last chapter. We can trust that the woman we have become has all the tools in her to thrive in this next chapter. We can trust her to handle the pressures growing in the middle of Libra season as we inch closer to the 10/10 New Moon that will be calling for reckoning of our own scales.

PRACTICE: Herbal Bath Release Ritual

Combine the magic of the element of water with the power of plant medicine in a hot herbal bath. Let the water symbolize what has been carried from the past, allowing the warmth and plant medicine to create space for release, replenishment, and reflection.

  • Gather the flowers and herbs that call to you and align with your intention.

  • Place them in a large pot and fill it with water.

  • Bring the water to a rolling boil, then cover and allow it to simmer on low for 20–25 minutes.

  • Turn off the heat and keep the pot covered while the infusion cools to a comfortable temperature.

  • Draw your bath, then strain the infused water through a strainer or cheesecloth and pour it directly into the bath.

  • Create a sacred space around you with candles, crystals, herbs, and/or personal symbols.

  • Set an intention for what you are ready to release during this cleanse.

  • Take a few deep breaths to settle into your own meditation, or use the Last Quarter Moon in Cancer Guided Meditation.

  • Relax, reflect, and allow yourself to stay in the water for as long as you need.

  • Before exiting the bath, leave an offering that is safe to wash down the drain and express your gratitude for the water, the plants, and whatever you are releasing.

  • Compost the plant remains or offer them back to the Earth after your bath or the following day.

Journal Prompts

  • What ideas, beliefs, habits, coping mechanisms, or relationships can I feel falling away from me right now? How can I rebalance their presence in my day-to-day life in a way that feels more aligned with my highest self?

  • What parts of my life feel reckless right now? Where might I need more structure, intention, or discernment? What can I realistically shift within the next week?

  • Can I name the soldiers I am releasing that once supported and protected past versions of me? What can I thank them for? What strength or wisdom did they leave behind for me to carry forward?

  • What parts of my support system feel 100% aligned with the woman I am becoming? Where does my support system feel less than fully supportive? How can I adjust my boundaries so I feel supported as I walk into this next chapter?
